I guess we all heard this, but that doesn’t make it less true: All our decisions are made based on emotions. Time and again, I get to witness how a video can help people make better decisions. As a video marketing professional, I know that video is the best tool to trigger emotions, but it is rare for me to see such a powerful validation of that as I did last month.
We had just finished producing a video for our client, Queens Medical Associates, a physician practice that specializes in the care of patients with Hematology and Oncology conditions.
The video was about their palliative care program, and the goal was to dispel the notion that palliative care is just for terminal patients, something you do because you’re about to die. Their goal is tactually to help patients live better and longer lives while in treatment. They even changed the name to Supportive Care, and their intention is to have every cancer patient be part of the program, from the very beginning of their treatment. They wanted the video to help them enroll more patients in the program.
One week after we finished the video, I received an email from Dr. Groysman, leader of the Supportive Oncology Program, telling me that he was simply blown away by the effectiveness of the video. He shared the story of the daughter of a new patient he had just met, who was very much against palliative care for her father. She said that her father had a less than optimal experience with that kind of care.
Dr. Groysman, seeing that he wasn’t getting through to her, asked if she would mind watching a five minute video about Supportive Care before she left. She agreed. Five minutes later, crying, she told Dr. Groysman that now she understood how beneficial the Supportive Oncology Program could be for her father. She immediately agreed to enroll him to the program.
To tell you the truth, even more gratifying than confirming how effective video can be, this story really touched our hearts. This is the reason we do what we do: to make a difference.
