First of all, what is SEO?

Before talking about Video SEO, it’s important to understand that SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is the activity of ensuring that a website can be found in search engines for words and phrases relevant to what the site is offering. Google promotes pages it thinks are authority pages to the top of it’s rankings. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users.

So in simple terms SEO involves writing pages that use keywords, words people use in searches, and securing links from other pages to show how important your page is compared to others. Links are votes and votes get your website ranked higher on web searches, making your company more visible and therefore bringing you more business.

And what is Video SEO?

Video SEO is the process of optimizing a video to be found more easily by search engines.  Video SEO is used by video publishers to increase the “findablility” of their videos, thereby increasing their video’s exposure and reach. Since Google bought Youtube, the importance of having a video linked to your website increased exponentially.

Having a video increases your chances of being in the first page of Google by 50%, BUT this is not enough by itself. If the video that wasn’t optimized with the right keywords, the right definitions and social media links, it still won’t be visible. That’s where Video SEO comes in: to maximize the chances of that video being rated high, therefore bringing more traffic to your website.
